More than 70 ISTA presidents serve evangelical and mainline Protestant, Roman Catholic, and Orthodox seminaries across the world. ISTA supports them throughout their tenure as chief executives.
The Seminar for New Presidents, for those typically in their first year of presidency, examines the following each year: transitions into the presidency, the role and vocation of the president, finance, governance, leadership, and the relationship of the president to other constituencies in theological education. Held in December, it is recommended as a prerequisite for the Presidential Leadership Intensive Conference.
The Presidential Leadership Intensive Conference gives attention to the leadership role, institutional finance, development, personnel, governance, legal issues, endowment management, conflict, and student recruitment and retention. Through rigorous learning sessions with experts in their fields coupled with sustained peer interaction, the Intensive offers seminary presidents a genuine break from on-campus responsibilities to reflect on their work. Held in January, it is recommended for those who have attended the Seminar for New Presidents or who have been serving as president for two years or more.
